Glasses or Contacts – Which Should You Choose?

When it comes to choosing between glasses or contacts, it largely comes down to each patient’s personal style preferences. The vast majority of patients without 20/20 vision can have contact lenses if they’d prefer to never wear glasses or only wear glasses at night. However, contacts also come with their own downsides that put many people on the fence about which to choose.

Pros & Cons

Eyeglasses

Pros:

● You can choose from a wide selection of frames.

● They are easy to maintain.

● Glasses are comfortable to wear and comfortable for your eyes.

● You only have to pay for them once, making them relatively affordable.

● There are no health side effects to wearing glasses.


Cons:

● Glasses will fog in the rain or cold and become difficult to see through.

● You may lose your glasses or break them.

● They may distort your vision if the prescription is out of date.

● Your ears and nose may start hurting after wearing them for a while.

Contact Lenses

Pros:

● No one will be able to tell you’re wearing them.

● You get more natural vision.

● It’s easier and safer to wear them while playing sports.

● They won’t get foggy in the rain or cold.


Cons:

● Long periods of wear will result in redness, irritation, and dryness.

● They will likely need to be taken out every night before bed and stored properly.

● Even contacts designed for long-term wear will need to be replaced frequently.

● It can be uncomfortable and difficult to put them in and take them out.
